General Logistics Systems (GLS) is a leading European-based parcel delivery company renowned for its efficient, reliable, and high-quality logistics services. Operating across a vast network spanning over 40 countries, GLS specializes in the seamless movement of parcels, offering tailored delivery solutions for businesses and individual customers. Its commitment to innovation and customer satisfaction has positioned GLS as a key player in the rapidly evolving logistics and e-commerce industries.

We replaced GLS’s scanning device with a personalized, intuitive app that streamlined parcel tracking, improved driver comfort, and enabled real-time delivery updates. It featured customizable scan placement, automated notifications, and enhanced camera functionality.

Situation

With the goal of providing fast and secure parcel delivery and returns, GLS required the development of a new tool for streamlined parcel scanning and route data collection. Their previous device had become insufficient, and drivers expressed concerns about its weight and limited functionality. As a result, we were tasked with creating an app that not only replaced the old system but also significantly improved its performance and usability.

Solution

To enhance usability and provide a tailored experience for drivers, we designed a tool with personalization features at its core. Leveraging our team's deep expertise in app design and usability, we worked closely with GLS to create a highly intuitive solution. One standout feature of the app is the ability for drivers to customize the placement of their scan button. Considering drivers may press this button over 500 times a day, this personalization significantly improves comfort, efficiency, and ease of use. The collaboration ensured the app was designed with both functionality and the end-user's needs in mind.

Results

The new tool has significantly enhanced driver efficiency and customer communication throughout the delivery process. From loading trucks in the morning to delivering parcels to private recipients or GLS ParcelShops, drivers are now guided more effectively through their workday. Real-time communication with recipients has also improved, with automated emails or text messages notifying them when parcels are ready for pickup at the nearest ParcelShop. Additionally, the app’s improved camera functionality supports customer service by enabling precise guidance for recipients using the DepositService, pinpointing the exact location of their parcel.
